What is the Deep Space Cooler?

It is a permanent upgrade to the Meade DSI I, II or III cameras that we manufacture and install for you.  The Deep Space Cooler allows you to cool your DSI camera to stable (typically within 0.1 degree), repeatable temperatures ranging from 30 degrees to 80 degrees Fahrenheit below the ambient camera temperature depending on the Deep Space Cooler model selected.

How long does the Deep Space Cooler upgrade take?

The upgrade process can take as little as a few days depending on the shipping method you want to use and where you are located (the actual upgrade process only takes a few days).

How is the Deep Space Cooler upgrade performed?

The upgrade involves removing the heat sink fins on the back of the camera and replacing them with an insulated, actively cooled thermoelectric cooling ("TEC") system and a separate digital temperature controller/monitor. 

What does the Deep Space Cooler include?

It depends on what model Deep Space Cooler is ordered.  There are three different models of Deep Space Cooler and two different sizes for the DSI I/II and the DSI III cameras.  The Deep Space Cooler Basic includes the TEC system and the external digital temperature controller.  The Deep Space Cooler Plus adds a single-stage air drying system to help reduce the possibility of condensation forming on the CCD and in the camera and allow the camera to be cooled to temperatures below the dew point.  The Deep Space Cooler Extreme adds a second-stage desiccant air drier and a water cooling block to the TEC system to allow cooling to substantially lower temperatures without condensation.
